Following the announcement of the lineup for Triple J’s 2013 edition of the One Night Stand last week, the location of the free all-ages concert has finally been revealed. Announced on air this morning came the news that the rural bash is this year headed to Dubbo, New South Wales.
The free event will take place on Saturday 13th April with a bunch of stellar Aussie acts already announced.
Headed to regional NSW are rising hip hop star Seth Sentry and Brisbane’s left-of-centre indie pop connoisseurs Ball Park Music. Both joining soul-rock swaggers The Rubens and the young Sydeny beat-making sensation Flume, who are both set to embark on recently announced national tours. The diverse lineup is set to grow with a lucky Triple J Unearthed winner still to be announced.
With both The Rubens and Seth Sentry on the bill, perhaps Dubbo music-lovers can also expect a repeat collaboration between the rock band the Aussie MC, the pair having teamed up before for a cover of The Roots’ ‘The Seed (2.0)’ at this year’s Laneway Festival.
ABC and Triple J are also stepping up their broadcast this year with the event to be aired live on ABC2 alongside the usual radio broadcast. Those unable to tune in can also catch up on the performances via ABC’s iView.Concert-goers headed to Dubbo can expect more than just great Aussie music.
Concert-goers headed to Dubbo can expect more than just great Aussie music. The town boasts the Taronga Western Plains Zoo, the Old Dubbo Gaol and The Shoyoen gardens among its sights as pointed out by Triple J‘s own guide to Dubbo.
Past lineups are just as juicy with previous acts including Matt Corby, Birds of Tokyo, The Living End, Art vs. Science, The Jezabels, The Temper Trap and Silverchair.
The annual gig has taken punters to some of the less travelled towns in Australia, playing to a flooded Dalby in Queensland last year that saw headliners The Temper Trap cancelling their headline slot and rapper 360’s set cut short.
Other regional townships that have played host to Triple J’s free all-ages festivals include Tumby Bay in South Australia and Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.
The One Night Stand has grown over the years, with a record 15,000 strong crowd rocking up for last year’s washed out event in Dalby. Organisers will surely be hoping for less extreme weather conditions this year in Dubbo.
