By the end of every week there are a bunch of music-related stories, cool links, videos, and other internet ditties that we haven’t managed to get to throughout the week.

As a remedy to this, we’re happy to introduce our new column  Trash Can– our avenue for sharing cool music tidbits we’ve come across for you to nibble on before the glory of the weekend. Dig in!

Tim Rogers Awkwardly Raps A Frank Ocean Cover

What do you get when you cross an ageing Aussie rock idol and one of the most famous rap breakdowns of the last 12 months? Awkwardness, that’s what. This morning You Am I stopped by Triple J’s breakfast show with Tom and Alex and in the famed ‘Like A Version’ segment decided to cover Frank Ocean’s ‘Super Rich Kids’. Frontman TIm Rogers does well enough until the rap breakdown, when he painfully tries to channel his inner MC to not much avail. While it could be argued that both acts are now iconic, this is probably a case of leaving well enough alone.

Ricky Gervais Made A Pilot About David Bowie

Before Extras,  and even before The Office Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant embarked on another television project called Golden Years which revolved around Gervais playing a deranged David Bowie impersonator. While there are some serious similarities in the tone of the show and Gervais and Merchant’s later collaborations, ultimately, Golden Years is even more pathetic.  Definitely worth a watch though. Remix Anything Thanks To The Dude Who Brought You The Creepiest Song Ever

It’s becoming easier and easier to make music these days. This can be a good thing with artistic freedom being at an all time high. On the other hand it does allow for bored idiots to make tunes that are almost always dubbed ‘experimental’. Cue Yelofier, an app that’s making remixes just about any sound as easy as pie. Made by former member of fallen 80s band Yello, who you’ll only remember for their disgusting song ‘Oh Yeah‘.  Breaking sounds down into colours and patterns, the app organises and arranges your tones for you. This Is What An 8000 Voice Virtual Choir Sounds Like

Grammy award-winning composer and producer Eric Whitaker has a knack for arrangements so consider this, the fourth instalment of his virtual choir, to be like the ultimate mash up. Taking video and audio of thousands of singers, Whitaker arranges the vocals to form one global choir.  As Mashable reports “He takes singers of all ages from around world and puts them on one stage — even if it is a virtual stage — and the results are stunning.” Virtual Choir 4, “Fly to Paradise” is comprised of 8,049 video submissions from singers aged six to 98 from 101 countries. Amazing.

Wayne Coyne Releases Comic Book

Comic Con is taking place this weekend in the US and in case the Flaming Lips frontman didn’t have enough on his plate,  he’s made a comic book entitled ‘The Sun Is Sick’. Nerds be warned though, it comes with a disclaimer. “This is not suitable for children and depending on what sort of person you are, it may not be suitable for non-children either”. It will be available all weekend at the comic convention and then on the Flaming Lips website for a limited time only.
