With so many music festival options to choose from, its next to impossible for Aussie fans to attend them all. And there’s few more cutthroat decisions for the discerning festival-goer than the summer season.

Especially when it comes to ringing in the New Year. Whether you spent it watching Vampire Weekend dodge a scary flare attack at the Falls Festival in Lorne, soaked up up the sounds and sun at the annual Field Day, or introduced yourself to the brand new boutique events, like the sold out NYE On The Hill or the inaugural New Year’s Evie, an awesome new mini-movie about Let Them Eat Cake may have you regretting your decision.

Following up the critical success of its 2013 debut, Let Them Eat Cake once again took up residence at Werribee Mansion, 10 hectares of imperial parkland located a stone’s throw from the Melbourne CBD, to deliver a “a secluded garden party bawdy with extravagance” featuring an impressive lineup of over 50 innovative electronic acts and DJs.

But even if the thought of a dance-fuelled celebration hosted in lush gardens doesn’t sound like your bag, this five minute documentary-come-feature on Let Them Eat Cake 2014 is enough to give you a serious case of the FOMOs, or if you were one of the thousands that attended, an excellent way to relive the magic.

Make no mistake, this isn’t your mate’s shoddy iPhone video, it’s a full-scale production with a swooping cinematic eye and filmic flair. “Make no mistake, this isn’t your mate’s shoddy iPhone video…”

Covering the New Years Day in all its rain-dappled glory, the video takes viewers on an exploration of Let Them Eat Cake, beginning with Werribee Mansion and its wondrous green surrounds. Then there’s interesting interviews with Let Them Eat Cake acts like LTJ Bukem, Dusky, Soul Clap, Kode 9, James Holden and more, as well as some interesting insight with Creative Director Matt Bonner and Partner Elliot Rothfield.

Stealing the show as star(s) of the high-quality production however is the variety of Let Them Eat Cake punters; from vox pops with stylish Spaniards and some humorously fried attendees, to the bevy of dancers – hipster, frazzled, and costumed alike.

The classy five-minute coverage comes from PLGRM, an Australian production company that focusses on the country’s unique music festival scene, having already produced a similarly slick overview of the Castle Music-presented BORT event.

But that clip was just a warm-up, and you can expect more music festival mini-movies from the PLGRM team in the near future.

“Across the Summer of 2013/14, PLGRM endeavour to share the unique stories of some Australia’s most interesting and forward thinking Independent Music Festivals,” promises the production company, with Let Them Eat Cake being Episode in a new ongoing series.

“Through the eyes of the organisers, the artists and the punters, an exploration will be made into the genetic make up of each festival and how the different environment, music and ethos of each event influences and shapes the culture of each unique festival experience.”

So keep your eyes peeled for more PLGRM productions in the near future, we know we will be.
