Way Of The Eagle, the collaboration-based project from Melbourne writer, producer, musician and composer Jan Skubiszewski, is back with the brand new single, ‘Shadows’ featuring The Cat Empire frontman Harry James Angus and Kylie Auldist on backing vocals from Melbourne outfit The Bamboos.
Having had one of Triple J’s Most Played Track’s in 2013 with his first single ‘Rattlesnake’, featuring vocals from Australian golden boy Dan Sultan, Way Of The Eagle is best described as a creative vision. “I love melodic songs and writing songs with different singers,” Jan explains the genesis of his new project. “And I think people love to sing along to songs – I know I do. I want that to be a really big part of Way Of The Eagle.”
Jan is widely regarded as one of Australia’s best young producers, having worked with Dan Sultan, John Butler Trio, Owl Eyes, Mama Kin and ILLY as well as scoring for film and TV including the Australian modern day classics, “Two Hands” and “Bran Nue Dae”.
The latest single from Way Of The Eagle, ‘Shadows’, sees Jan team up with long time friend and collaborator Harry James Angus. The pair had recently worked on ARIA award nominated album ‘Steal The Light’ for The Cat Empire, so it seemed like a natural choice to have Harry on vocals for the first single off the producer’s debut album. When discussing the collaboration Jan adds “Harry initially laid down the vocals in quite a straightforward way, but didn’t feel the track really popped. He then took it up an octave to his highest falsetto and that’s where we found a vocal that really fit the track.”
The video for ‘Shadows’ was filmed in Jan’s hometown of Melbourne at The Albany Motel and features Harry and Jan playing some rather shady characters. You can check it out exclusively on Tone Deaf today.
The debut album from Way Of The Eagle will be released in 2014.
