Remember when Frances Bean Cobain slammed Lana Del Rey for her comments that allegedly “romanticised death”, causing a shitstorm on the internet? Well, it looks like someone else has got it in for the sultry songstress.
Alt-rock Queen Kim Gordon has been stoking a brewing wildfire of controversy as excerpts from her forthcoming autobiography Girl In A Band keep popping-up, and the latest comments to emerge sees Gordon suggest Lana Del Rey should “off herself”, as Pitchfork report.
To provide some context, Gordon is said to be speaking of feminism when her issue with the ‘West Coast’ singer arises, the tome reading, “Today we have someone like Lana Del Rey, who doesn’t even know what feminism is, who believes women can do whatever they want, which, in her world, tilts toward self-destruction, whether it’s sleeping with gross old men or getting gang raped by bikers” she pens.
“Equal pay and equal rights would be nice. Naturally, it’s just a persona. If she really truly believes it’s beautiful when young musicians go out on a hot flame of drugs and depression, why doesn’t she just off herself?” Gordon critically questions. Ouch, right?
Of course, these aren’t the only shots fired from the Body/Head artist, with earlier passages having hit Courtney Love hard, Gordon stating she has “a low tolerance for manipulative, egomaniacal behaviour” before suggesting that Love may be “mentally ill”.
It doesn’t end there, Gordon poking fun at the ’90s favourite punching-bag Billy Corgan, calling him a “cry baby” that “nobody liked”, and that’s not to mention the comments on her split with fellow Sonic Youth band member, Thurston Moore.
We’re not too sure what to expect from Girl In A Band, so far all we’ve seen is headline trash quotes on others within the industry but it looks like this book is shaping up to be one hell of a read.
Girl In A Band will hit bookstores on February 24.
