Each year Record Store Day gets a little more exciting, with crazy rare and totally unique releases hitting shelves for the most avid of vinyl fans to hunt down and make their own, and it looks like this year wax advocate Jack White will release something pretty dang special.
In speaking with an interview with Billboard, White has revealed that he was the secret bidder who recently purchased Elvis Presley’s first ever record, and he’s got big plans for the album, as Pitchfork writes.
The 1o” vinyl comprising of the Presley covering tracks ‘My Happiness’ and ‘That’s When The Heartaches Begin’ that were recorded in 1953 was reportedly sold for a staggering $300,000 to White, which at the time he chose to remain anonymous, more than likely because he wanted to surprise the world in announcing that his label Third Man Records would reissue the single for Record Store Day 2015.
White apparently made the announcement to a crowd of Third Man employees at the studio in Nashville “This is the first recording ever made by Elvis Presley. On Record Store Day, Third Man Records will issue this on vinyl.”
This rerelease is definitely one to add to the list of must-haves for those rare vinyl obsessors out there, and with such news, we’re already getting super amped for the universal day of vinyl appreciation.
