February of this year saw Sonic Youth legend Kim Gordon release her highly anticipated tell-all memoir Girl In A Band which has seen the artist hit the open road to promote the autobiography which, to our excitement, has included a lengthy chat with her personal friend, Carrie Brownstein.
Invited by the San Francisco’s Jewish Community Center as part of their Arts & Ideas lecture series, Brownstein, renown for her work with the seminal outfit Sleater-Kinney, not to mention the hilarious television show Portlandia, sat down with Gordon to discuss her tome, exploring both the themes of the pages, the pair’s conversation heavily centred around the notion of being (as the title of Gordon’s book reads) a girl in a band, as Stereogum highlight.
The interview is a wonderful insight into the mind of the typically introverted and reserved Gordon, however Brownstein’s hilarious disposition proves too strong, continually causing the Sonic Youth musician (and audience) to erupt into fits of laughter as she asks compelling questions of Gordon’s career.
