One of our favourite upcoming hip hop acts, NYUON is today unveiling the video for his impressive new single ‘Hoyts’. At the forefront of Australia’s new vanguard of talented young emcees, NYUON stands out for his undeniable talent for lyricism.

NYUON explains the meanings behind the new composite video: “The video is two songs in one, the first half (in the white room aka my mind) being the first verse of a song called ‘Gone’ on my album [BYMYSELF] and the second being ‘Hoyts’. ‘Hoyts’ is a trippy journey through my mind where I talk about being comfortable alone enough to go to the movies (hoyts) by myself. I talk about how FAMILY is what matters most to me over all other relationships and also about how being alone sometimes is good for self growth and reflection.”

In the last verse I talk about how “these days, we say, YOLO (you only live once) so cliche, not know that we stray first we strait then decay! Mind set on delay fake friends on replay, real friends on betray, it’s enough to make me say…” And to me I feel like I was just telling it like it is and that words/phrases like Yolo have given people an excuse to not chase their dreams/not think about long term goals, given people an excuse to stray away from their dreams and goals, caused people to be lazy about going after what they want, caused people to be fake and betray their friends or fake it in order to impress people who aren’t really their friends.

The video was meant to represent my detachment from reality and just being in my crazy mind while everything else is going along normal in the real outside world. I worked with my very good friend and director George Kalpa on this video along with a very talented and supportive team of hard working friends and family.”

The young rhyme-slinger was born in an Ethiopian refugee camp to Sudanese parents, moving to Australia in 2001 to escape the civil war. It was in his new life in Melbourne that he discovered his talent for rhyme and lyricism. Check out the clip below and if you like what you’re hearing pop by NYUON’s Facebook page for more info.
