Still riding a wave of momentum from a series of explosive performances at the recent BIGSOUND conference, Brisbane crew WAAX are making it clear they’re vying for world domination with the surprise release of their debut EP and a December tour.

Their Holy Sick EP follows and intense period of creativity for the group. After announcing themselves to the world in 2014, they were handpicked by triple j Unearthed to perform at BIGSOUND and have managed to pick up a rabid following along the way.

The band are also a force to be reckoned with on the live stage, having supported the likes of Kingswood, Ecca Vandal, and The Delta Riggs. To celebrate hitting the road once again the crew have curated a 70s road trip rick n roll mix.

The band explain the mixtape: “Nothing’s more nostalgic than travelling around the country, being on the road for days at a time with your best buds. So with that in mind we decided to make you a playlist of our favourite road trip songs from the 70s. Not that any of us were actually alive in the 70’s to be able to be nostalgic about that particular era, but whatever… here ya go!”

Electric Light Orchestra – ‘Mr Blue Sky’

The best start to any good roadtrip, lots of energy, upbeat and vibes galore.

T-Rex – ‘Bang A Gong (Get it on)’

Lil bit sexy, imagine cruising at 110 to this tune

Anthem – ‘Rush’

Probably a little bit hectic for a long drive, but this album was ridiculous, we’ll take Geddi Lee for a drive any day

Stealers Wheel – ‘Stuck in the middle with you’

On literally every “Pub classics” and “road trip anthems” CD ever

Led Zeppelin – ‘Misty mountain hop’

The boppier side to Zeppelin, so much groove B)

David Bowie – ‘Changes’

A classic by all measures, just sneaks into the 70’s thank fuck.

Pink Floyd – ‘Comfortably Numb’

A slow jam from one of the best bands of all time

The rolling stones – ‘Tumbling Dice’

Keeping the classics in check, one of our favs by The Stones

America – ‘Ventura Highway’

MURRICA!

Ramones – ‘Beat on the Brat’

Gotta make sure you keep awake on long road trips, so you don’t die and stuff. Punk stalwarts keeping us bopping along.

Suzie Quatro – ‘Devil Gate Drive’

Same as before, WE’RE AWAKE! Praise to da queen of RAWK

The Knack – ‘My Sharona’

Haha… we couldn’t resist. ARE WE THERE YET?!
