Sydney producer Lyall Moloney was in the middle of a performance at The Commercial Hotel in Milton, NSW on Saturday night when, he alleges, the gig was broken up by a group of police officers who proceeded to assault several members of the crowd.
Taking to Facebook, the producer, who’s currently on the road with Boo Seeka and Bootleg Rascal, claimed seven police officers armed with two police dogs stormed the venue, with half the crowd leaving the venue as a result.
“I headlined a sold out show on Saturday in Milton. During my set, two dogs and seven police stormed the building, half-emptying the room,” Moloney writes in a disturbing account of events on his official Facebook page.
“There was a guy filming me while standing on a chair to get a view over the crowd of me performing. Without warning, an officer grabbed him by the scruff of the neck, threw him to the ground and put his knee on his neck saying ‘Get off the fucking chair’.”
“The gang then proceeded to storm through the entire hotel with the only success of busting a girl with literally half a pill of ecstasy. There was several other people being treated violently by the police, lots of knees on throats, etc.”
“I don’t see why we make laws about not standing on chairs in bars for personal safety if police are allowed to throw people off the chairs to enforce this law.”
“I respect the police but all this violence is utterly inhumane and frankly I am appalled once again by the immense cruelty and stupidity displayed by our public servants.”

Several commenters have since corroborated Moloney’s claims, one writing, “I was standing next to the bloke, he was having a great time just vibeing to the music, and the officer didn’t say a word to him just grabbed him and literally ripped him down.”

“It was fucken disgusting!” another wrote. “What’s more anti social than 7 cops with a military complex raiding a venue, swearing at and physically abusing patrons!? …Absolutely unnecessary and unacceptable heavy handed tactics from people who are meant to be protecting us.”
When reached for comment by The Music, Shoalhaven police said anyone wishing to file a complaint about the alleged behaviour of officers should contact the station directly. The Commercial Hotel declined to make a comment at this time.
Shoalhaven police recently confirmed that officers from the station undertook a “proactive operation” over Friday and Saturday night in the area, targeting illicit and antisocial behaviour inside of licensed premises.
