If social media has taught us anything, it’s that cops are hilarious and if you plan on throwing an illegal party, you shouldn’t tell everybody on Facebook, because those witty coppers are sure to shut you down.
That’s the lesson that would-be party organisers Jai Motherwell and Clint White were handed when they attempted to promote their ‘Triple J Hottest 100 Party 2016 at St Kilda Beach’ via Facebook, where it quickly caught the attention of Victoria Police.
“Bring a buddy, bring your beers, bring a little tradie radio and switch her to 107.5 as we count down the hottest 100 songs of 2015 on the beach of St Kilda,” the hopeful party promoters urged. “This is an open event, spread the word and bring the gang!”
The word was indeed spread and the fuzz soon caught wind of Jai and Clint’s shindig. “Hi Jai and Clint,” they wrote. “This is Victoria Police. We know this party is not sanctioned by Triple J, so we’re assuming you haven’t got any permits from Port Phillip Council either?”
“If that’s the case,” they continued, “we’ll pay you a visit on Australia Day and let’s hope we don’t spoil your party!” Sure enough, that message from the five-0 put the fear of God into Jai and Clint, who promptly cancelled their event.

“The numbers have blown way out of proportion and you can’t trust 20,000 strangers to do the right thing,” they wrote. “Please respect our decision and share around that the event has been cancelled.”
“There are plenty of other parties in St Kilda for Australia Day. Who’s keen to catch Fatboy Slim?!” If you do happen to be looking for a good, officially sanctioned Hottest 100 party in St Kilda, head on over to Bowled Over at the St Kilda Bowls Club.
