Following on from a highly successful year in 2015, which brought a host of internationally acclaimed stars to Sydney, the organisers of Vivid Sydney 2016 have announced the first act set for this year’s Vivid LIVE lineup.
Two of contemporary music’s most eclectic and critically hailed innovators — Anohni (previously known as Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons) and Oneohtrix Point Never — will debut their new work, ‘Hopelesness’.
These four exclusive Vivid LIVE performances promise to be Anohni’s most ambitious project yet and will take place at the Sydney Opera House as part of Vivid Sydney, the world’s largest festival of light, music, and ideas.
Tickets to Anohni’s Sydney-exclusive Vivid LIVE concerts will be allocated by ballot. Previous ballots for Morrissey and Kraftwerk both sold out quickly and there’s no doubt tickets to Anohni’s onstage collaboration with OPN and pianist Gaël Rakotondrabe will fly.
“Vivid Sydney’s cutting-edge contemporary music program brings the most outstanding local and international artists to Sydney and today’s announcement of Anohni at Vivid LIVE is the first of what’s set to be a stellar line-up for the festival in 2016,” said Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer and Executive Producer of Vivid Sydney, Sandra Chipchase.
In its eighth year, Vivid LIVE 2016 will be curated by Ben Marshall, the Opera House’s Head of Contemporary Music, who was responsible for bringing the likes of Morrissey, Sufjan Stevens, and TV On The Radio to the stages of the World Heritage-listed building.
“Anohni is one of the most talented and powerful contemporary artists working today. She is a transformative artist for this transformative festival,” said Marshall. “We are genuinely honoured she has chosen Vivid Live at Sydney Opera House to unveil her most ambitious, compelling and perhaps accessible piece yet.”
