You might know Kristin Welchez best as Dee Dee, frontwoman for critically acclaimed rockers the Dum Dum Girls. She’s back with a whole new musical outlook and a fresh new solo project she’s dubbed Kristin Kontrol.
X-Communicate Welchez’s first album as Kristin Kontrol is set to drop Friday, 27th May on Sub Pop Records via Inertia Music and the title track is now available to stream via SoundCloud (check it out below).
“For me as leader of Dum Dum Girls it felt very stoic and serious, and I am serious, but anyone who really knows me knows I’m silly, too; I smile a lot,” explains Kristin. “As the years went on, it was so weird that I kept so much of me out of what I was doing creatively.”
Indeed, listening to ‘X-Communciate’, it’s brimming with a bouncy, glittery positivity and some absolutely infectious disco-pop hooks. But never fear, there’s still the same level of intelligent songsmithing we’ve come to expect from Welchez.
