Queens of the Stone Age returned to the live circuit with an intimate club show in Los Angeles over the weekend which was a benefit in aid of Eagles of Death Metal bassist Brian O’Connor, who is stricken with cancer. Leading his cohorts in their first gig since 2008, front man Josh Homme reminded the sold out crowd of the reason for the event, saying “We are gonna call upon the power and fury of rock and roll to heal our friend” as he channeled the spirit of James Brown. “Can you dig it?”
O’Connor delayed chemotherapy treatment to be able to play at the event, with fans paying $50 to $250 for tickets, with all proceeds going to O’Connor’s treatment via the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund. Showing he can call in favours in high places, Hughes was able to call upon Alex Turner’s Arctic Monkeys side project Last of The Shadow Puppets as a support act.
