Simultaneously lethargic but infectiously upbeat, the new one from Melbourne rock five-piece Smoke Rings is a beauty.
‘Feelin’ Tired’ captures a hazy, delirious state of nocturnal giddiness with layer upon layer of guitar drone, the distant fuzz of a “la la” singalong, and a rich, laconic lead vocal. The track creeps up on you as it builds, lulling you into a state of calm before eventually pummelling you with thumping drum fills driving a wall of sound.
The video is a pretty stylish one too, the images on the telly perfectly nailing a distinct throwback to brit rock clips of decades past, with a nice little twist in the framing device.
