Morrissey, no stranger to delivering heartbreak and despair, has yet again brought sadness into the hearts of his fans by cancelling his US tour.
In a letter to fan-site True To You aptly titled ‘There Is A Light That Now Goes Out’, the former frontman for The Smiths reveals that US dates which were already rescheduled following the collapse of keyboardist Gustavo Mazur in the US earlier in the year, have been completely cancelled.
“When Gustavo collapsed at the Boulder show,” Morrissey said. “360 Management responded with the announcement that all funds had suddenly evaporated. There was apparently not even enough money to transport the touring party to the next scheduled city, and 360 Management faded out as quickly as they had faded in.”
As sad as the announcement is for many US fans, it’s what Moz accompanied his open letter with that has got some fans talking.
Alongside the cancellation announcement was a list of shows that Morrissey had played in 2016, accompanied by a list of his favourite crowds for the year, or as he puts it, a list of the places in which “the mobilized strength of our ragingly loyal audiences were most appreciated, by me.”
Adelaide, Melbourne, and Newcastle made up positions #4, #5, and #11 on the list; 80% of the stops on his Aussie tour. Both Canberra and Wollongong were left of the list, but after a poor experience with crowd members at the latter, it’s not hard to see why that was.
