Soundgarden’s guitarist Kim Thayil has joined forces with Pearl Jam during their recent set at Rock Werchter in Belgium to perform an epic tribute to legendary proto-punk act MC5. Joining them for the tribute was Zen Guerilla’s Marcus Durant, who shared vocal duties with Eddie Vedder on the renowned track, whilst Thayil showed off his impeccable shredding abilities. In what was already an incredible lineup, Wayne Kramer of MC5 hit the stage as well, playing his signature Strat.
Thayil and Pearl Jam/Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron have recently performed together as part of an MC5 tribute act, performing at Northside Festival in Denmark in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the seminal album Kick Out The Jams.
The collaboration marked the first time Cameron and Thayil had performed together since early 2017, just after Chris Cornell’s death at a charity function.

Eddie Vedder recently treated the crowd at Pearl Jam’s show at Prague’s O2 Arena to a stripped back cover of the Beatles’ 1965 classic ‘Help’, before the rest of the band joined in as they launched into their 2002 track ‘Help, Help’.
The band are currently embarking on a huge European summer tour, in which is set to wrap up in London on July 17th, before the band head to the states for a small run of shows.
Pearl Jam were last in Australia for the very last Big Day Out festival back in 2014, alongside Blur and Arcade Fire, meaning the huge band are well overdue for a tour down under.
