During the opening night of his This Is America World Tour, Donald Glover told the crowd it would be his final tour as Childish Gambino. This news comes after the artist told the crowd at last year’s Governor’s Ball in New York that his next album would be his last.
The follow up to the Grammy Award winning Awaken, My Love! is expected soon. Gambino has already released three new tracks this year, and has sent two other tracks to fans who are attending his tour. No exact details have been released about the album, however Glover has promised fans more new music at his upcoming PHAROS experience in Auckland.
The rapper is due in Australia later this year for a massive headlining performance at Spilt Milk, and a sold out national tour. The huge international tour will wrap up in New Zealand after the PHAROS event, which we once again don’t know a lot about.
Talking to the crowd on Thursday night in Atlanta, Glover said “If you’re at this show know that it’s the last Gambino tour ever. This is not a concert. This is fucking church.”
Whilst this may be sad news for many fans of Childish Gambino, it would not be surprising if Glover returned to music under a different name in the future. Outside of his music, there are several upcoming TV projects the multi-talented artist is involved in.
