Following the announcement of Apple’s new range of iPhones earlier today, music-minded fans have started to draw comparisons between the technology and Aussie rock legends INXS.
Earlier this year, Courtney Barnett teamed up with Apple to perform a song for their new ad campaign which promoted marriage quality. The ad featured Courtney covering INXS’ ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ once again, and was a rather emotional experience. Now, music fans think Apple should’ve teamed up with the band for their newest event.
Overnight, Apple held their latest product launch where they announced their newest range of iPhones. While tech-heads were undoubtedly salivating over the iPhone XR and the iPhone XS, music fans were thinking the latter’s name sounded awfully familiar.
Yes, as Billboard notes, a number of social media users have vented their jovial frustration that Apple didn’t team up with the Aussie rockers to help launch the iPhone XS.
Get your act together @Apple! The iPhone INXS could have been the cross-branding opportunity of the decade. That decade may have been the 80’s, but still!

“Can’t decide between the iPhone INXS or the iPhone Tears for Fears,” wrote one user, while another joked that Apple were “KICKing off the XS launch by preloading (the) INXS album Kick onto each iPhone XS!”
Of course, if fans were really looking forward to seeing the band perform in support of the iPhone launch, they would have been disappointed, with INXS officially breaking up six years ago.
However, if you’re keen on getting the full INXS experience in this day and age, the comprehensive museum dedicated to the iconic group is still on track to open at some point in the future, so we’ve at least got that.
