Metallica have shared a stunning video of a 1989 live performance which shows them ripping through fan-favourite ‘Blackened’.
Last month, we passed the 30th anniversary of Metallica’s fourth album, …And Justice For All. While the record has long been a point of contention for fans in regards to the lack of bass, the band are about to give it the deluxe treatment.
Earlier this year, the album’s producer, Flemming Rasmussen, revealed that he was involved in an anniversary edition of the record.
” I’m actually in the process of sending stuff to Metallica and writing an essay about how it was recorded and what we did,” he explained. “The last year was the Master Of Puppets re-issue, and Justice is gonna come out this November I guess. Same thing – vinyls, loads of CDs, rough mixes, all the demos and the works and big book and everything.”
While there had been conflicting reports as to whether or not Metallica are set to remix, remaster, or just straight-up reissue the album, the group finally revealed last week a remastered and expanded edition of the record is set to be released this November.
Now, Metallica have unearthed a blast from the past, releasing an previously-unreleased live video of album opener ‘Blackened’.
Recorded at their September 1989 concert in California, the live performance gives a pretty brilliant idea of what the band’s late ’80s gigs looked like when the band were at their most brutal.
The entirety of the gig is set to feature on the upcoming reissue of …And Justice For All, and judging by the massive amount of stuff that’s included in this box set, it’s well and truly looking like a thrash metal fan’s dream.
While Metallica’s current tour is set to take them into March of 2019, a recent interview with drummer Lars Ulrich has reignited hope that the band might be able to squeeze in some Aussie dates as well.
“I mean obviously there’s an end [to the tour] at some point,” Ulrich explained to So What!’s Steffan Chirazi.
“We gotta just sit and look. There’s Japan. There’s Australia. There’s New Zealand. There’s a couple other pockets that obviously Metallica has a long and very cool relationship with, so we just gotta sit down and figure it out.”
“But to me the most important thing is, and this goes back to what we were talking about [the last time], the maintenance thing,” he continued. “We gotta go to Japan, we gotta go to Australia, we gotta go here, we gotta go there. That’s fine. As long as it’s done within the boundaries that exist.”
The new deluxe box set of …And Justice For All is set to be released on November 2nd.
