Get ready for anarchy in your cinema, because there is a Sex Pistols biopic reportedly in the works.
It’s hard to believe, but 2019 marks the 44th anniversary of the formation of the Sex Pistols.
Coming together in 1975, this group of English musicians had no idea about the sort of legacy and influence that their high-energy music would have on the world.
While countless musicians consider them vital influences on their work, the group’s legacy had lasted far beyond the group’s initial three-year run.
Of course, while plenty of folks have written extensively in regards to the band’s iconic history, there have even been a few attempts to portray them in film.
While films such as 24 Hour Party People, Sid & Nancy, and The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle have portrayed the group in different manners, 2000’s The Filth & The Fury was a well-received documentary on the iconic band.
Now, it seems that the Sex Pistols are heading to the big screen.
As NME reports, UK firm Starlight Films are keen to recreate the success of films like Bohemian Rhapsody, having been working on a punk biopic for roughly 18 months.
In an interview with The Daily Star, filmmaker Ayesha Plunkett explained, “We were impressed by the box office takings for Bohemian Rhapsody. It only goes to show the public has an appetite for these films.”
At this stage, the production is still quite a ways off, though Starlight Films have already created a wishlist for who they want to take on the role of Malcolm McLaren and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood.
Likewise, the plot is still far from being confirmed, though with McLaren and Westwood stealing focus, it’s obvious that the Sex Pistols’ meteoric rise in the mid-to-late ’70s will also be on full display.
