A US judge has sentenced Soulja Boy to jail time, with the rapper heading to lock-up over a probation violation.
Back in March, it was revealed that 28-year-old rapper Soulja Boy had been arrested, and charged with violating his probation after he was found with ammunition at his California home.
The musician had been on probation since 2014, when he was convicted of carrying a loaded weapon in public. While he had been sentenced to 24 months of probation, he was arrested for violating this parole in 2016 after law enforcement found weapons in house.
The legal troubles didn’t stop there though, with Soulja Boy eventually being charged with further felonies and misdemeanours relating to the possession of firearms, before eventually behind convicted of these felonies in 2017, and being sentenced to five years of probation.
Now, as TMZ reports, the rapper faced up to court on Tuesday, eventually being given 240 days in jail, with 265 days of community service for his probation violation.
While the presiding judge originally planned to give Soulja Boy two years in prison, the musician was given leniency, with the judge giving him a credit of 40 days served and also noting the business opportunities that Soulja would miss out on while in jail.
This news comes off the tail end of a tumultuous few months for the rapper, with Soulja Boy being “tricked” into supporting an anti-semitic hate group, claiming he taught Drake “everything he knows”, and also being accused of kidnapping and assaulting his girlfriend.
Most recently though, Soulja Boy had his house broken into while he was locked up, with thieves making off with more than USD $500,000 in jewellery, while a further USD $100,000 was stolen from a safe in the rapper’s room.
The thieves in question also stole the musician’s phone, live-streaming themselves via his Instagram, asking for $1,000 for the phone’s return. It’s unknown whether anyone has been arrested over this robbery, or how Soulja Boy took the news.
