Neil Young has announced the release of his next book, with To Feel The Music set to be released in September.

For decades now, Neil Young has been one of the most critically-acclaimed musicians of the modern era, with his albums considered classics, and his songs and lyrics frequently cited as some of the greatest.

As you could expect, Young is a musician who takes the craft seriously. So, when the rocker announced the release of his high-quality audio player Pono back in 2014, it was regarded as something of an expected move from the legend.

Since then, he’s continued his campaign for better audio, keeping his material off of streaming services for a time, and launching his own digital music archive back in 2017.

Now, this journey has led to the creation of a new book, chronicling Neil Young’s efforts to save music quality.

Dubbed To Feel The Music, the book is co-written by Neil Young and the Neil Young Archives’ CEO Phil Baker, and can be summed up by its full title; “a songwriter’s mission to save high-quality audio.”

To Feel the Music is the story of my efforts to improve the quality of audio that you hear,” Young explained on his website.

“It takes you through how the sound was and is compromised by the tech and record companies, and instead of improving over time like other technologies, it has become worse.”

“Our book also tells the business and development story behind Pono, and then, when people wanted the convenience of streaming, how we developed Xstream high resolution streaming, the highest quality streaming in the world, as you hear it at NYA,” he continues.

“The issue of improving audio quality has been one of the most important things we’ve been doing for decades, and something I focus on every day. We spent a year writing this and I think you’ll find it interesting and informative. The book will be released September 9 and I hope you enjoy it.”

While Neil Young’s new work might be a bit technical for casual fans, it looks set to be an intriguing read for those who care about the quality of the music that they listen to.

In related news, Young recently announced the release of Tuscaloosa, a live album featured previously-unreleased recordings made during the tour that brought fans the Time Fades Away record.
