Brisbane has just scored itself a new music venue, with The Outpost set to officially open on August 1st.

Ask any veteran music-lover, and they’ll likely list off The Outpost as one of their favourite Queensland venues that has fallen victim to time. Now, decades later, the name is set to adorn concert tickets once again, with a new venue of the same name opening just next month.

Located in the Brunswick St Mall, The Outpost will be found inside the Fortitude Music Hall, which itself opens in just a couple of weeks.

As The Music reports, the 300-capacity venue is set to officially kick things off with a run of impressive gigs next month, as it attempts to pay homage to the ’70s dive bar of the same name, which was also an integral part of the Brisbane music scene for many years.

“My first ever gig was at The Outpost. I was 16 and was hyper-aware to a new world opening up to me,” venue director John Collins explains.

“However, this Outpost is no dive bar. The team have created a stunning space that equally accommodates after work cocktails, pre-dinner drinks, and will nurture artists, offering them a springboard onto the Fortitude stage in tours to come.

“We hope it will have the same impact on patrons as its namesake had on me.”

Already it appears as though The Outpost will help encourage local talent as much as its namesake did, with a launch party featuring the likes of Major Leagues and Greta Stanley, and performances from Sweater Curse, Sampology, and more already on the books.
