Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig has interviewed Foster The People’s Mark Foster about the latter’s controversial conspiracy theory regarding late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

This time last week, the world was focused on the controversial death of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Considering the circumstances surrounding his passing, conspiracy theories soon popped up everywhere, with even US President Donald Trump taking to Twitter to share his own opinion on the matter.

However, the strangest aspect of it all came when US rock outfit Foster The People offered up their own hot take on Twitter.

“Have you seen photos of the body?” the band wrote. “It’s obviously not him. my guess is, Epstein’s on a private plane to somewhere in the middle east getting prepped for plastic surgery right now #EpsteinBodyDouble”

Now, one week on, Mark Foster of Foster The People teamed up with Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig for his Beats 1 radio program, Time Crisis. Discussing a number of topics, Pitchfork reports that the pair soon turned their attention to the Jeffrey Epstein conspiracy theories.

“I was looking at the Snopes article about it, and there’s the Foster the People tweet in the Snopes article about it,” Koenig began. “In some ways, you’ve become—whether or not you wanted to be—you’re the voice of that particular theory.

“Was it the [side-by-side] photo that set you off? What about before you saw the photo, did you already think, ‘I bet he’s not even dead?’”

“I think you go through all the realms of possibilities of what happened, what could have happened,” Foster replied. “And look, I’m not a forensics expert—I put out a fucking tweet, you know what I mean?

“Just being a musician that wanted to put out a tweet and start a public discourse about this guy. But you look at the photo, and it’s not the same guy!”

While Ezra Koenig noted he is “a very live and let live open-minded kind of guy”, Mark Foster also urged people to think for themselves, and not let the media form and guide their points of view.

“I guess I would say that I feel like we’re living in an age of misinformation,” Foster added. “People need to do their own research and dig and not believe everything that you hear.”
