More than a decade after they split, Supergrass are back with new tour dates, and a career-spanning box set under their belt.

Back in April of 2010, Britpop icons Supergrass announced that they would be calling it quits after 17 years together.

A blow to the English music scene, Supergrass had ben critical darlings across their career, offering up classic tracks like ‘Alright‘, ‘Caught By The Fuzz‘, and ‘Pumping On Your Stereo‘, while touring relentlessly the world over.

However, while members of the group would go on to work with a number of side projects, fans always secretly hoped a reunion would be on the cards.

Now, following a performance at the Pilton Party last week, the group are well and truly back, with a few plans for the future.

As Spin notes, Supergrass have now plotted a number of reunion shows in Europe for 2020, with gigs slated for Paris, Glasgow, Brussels, Amsterdam, Dublin, and Belfast throughout February, and a brief visit to the US scheduled for April.

“Everything aligned for us to make this happen for 2020. It was the first time that we collectively felt the buzz to get back in a room together and play the songs,” explained drummer Danny Goffey in a statement.

“We’re extremely excited to get out there and bring a bit of Supergrass joy to all our fans…and their extended families.”

To celebrate this news though, the band have also announced the release of Supergrass: The Strange Ones 1994 – 2008, a box set which collects all six of their studio records, alongside a bunch of extras.

In addition to their albums being available on vinyl and CD, the deluxe edition also includes four discs of previously unreleased live material, two discs of remixes, B-sides, acoustic versions and other rarities, and one disc full of previously unreleased demos, out-takes and oddities.

While a more concise CD and vinyl edition will also be issued, the band have shared their cover of The Police’s ‘Next To You’ in honour of the news.

Think it sounds familiar? Well, you might recall Supergrass covering the same track when they hit up triple j’s studios for a Like A Version performance during their final Aussie tour in 2008.

Although there’s no word yet as to when we might see Supergrass hit up Australian shores once again, fans hoping for a reunion record might be a little bit disappointed at the current time, with Danny Goffey noting that right now, “the idea is to play gigs, not create more music.”
