The Stone Roses guitarist John Squire has confirmed the news we all feared, but in our heart of hearts knew to be true — the band are no more.
In 2011 the seminal Madchester act announced their reunion after calling it quits in 1996. The comeback saw the band embark on a world tour, release a documentary and produce two singles ‘All For One’ and ‘Beautiful Thing’.
In a new interview with The Guardian, Squire confirmed that the band called it a day following their final 2017 performance at Glasgow. When asked by Journalist Sam Wollaston “Is that really it for the Roses?,” Squire simply responded “Yeah.”
Frontman Ian Brown hinted that their Glasgow show would be the band’s final celebration during the performance. “Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy that it happened,’ he shared at the time.
Brown released his seventh studio album, Ripples, in January this year — his first solo record in ten years. Brown produced, wrote, created the album artwork and played most of the instruments on the record himself.
Earlier this year The Stone Roses unveiled a collaborative capsule collection with Manchester United royalty David Beckham and British heritage label Kent & Curwen.
The collection paid homage to the golden era of Madchester fashion, featuring a limited edition range of t-shirts, sweatshirts, shirts, coats, jackets and bucket hats that all pay homage to John Squire’s iconic album artwork.
