Rising pop-punk outfit Split Feed are one name that you definitely need to know, with their ferocious tunes set to pump out of stereos the world over in no time at all.
Having formed only a few years ago while its members were in high school, Newcastle’s Split Feed was born out of a shared love of groups like Billy Talent and Violent Soho. Before long, the group were writing their own songs, and by 2017, they’d released their debut EP, Late Bloomer.
Continuing to write and record songs, Split Feed released a handful of singles in 2018, while hitting the live stage with big names like As It Is, The Living End, and Skegss, just to name a few.
Now, with the group gearing up to release their second EP, Second Skin, on November 8th, they’ve just unleashed their latest tune, unveiling the video for ‘Dwell’, and proving more of why they’re one band you need to know.
To celebrate the new song and upcoming EP, we had a chat to Split Feed to learn more about this exciting quartet.

How did your artist name come about?
It’s for all the gamers out there – we took it from the Call Of Duty games! Not that it’s directly mentioned in the games, but it’s a term that gamers used when playing it.
Split Feed was actually the name of the band Joe and Brad started in about year 8 for a short time, then when we started this band in year 11, we took the name and ran with it.

How would you describe your music to your grandma?
Rock and (we cannot stress this enough) roll.
Tell us about a few of your tracks; their titles and what they’re about?
We just released ‘Dwell’, which is our collective favourite Split Feed track to date. It’s about the struggles that come with the realisation that a relationship has failed, and what we do as people to get over this. It also has the biggest rock and roll guitar solo we’ve ever made!
Back in August we released the first single from our upcoming EP, ‘Trinkets’. It was actually inspired by the game Spy Fox (great game) and it’s about how we can still be attached to people even if it’s through worthless, obscure items.
We released a music video for this one too where we dressed up as an ’80s hair metal band, it was super fun and stupid.
What do you love about your hometown?
Newy is great because you all always know everyone whether it’s directly or through a friend. There’s a great community spirit with everything we do and also there is Cappadocia which have the best kebab & chips combo in NSW (if you know, you know).
Career highlight so far?
Last year we were chosen by triple j Unearthed to open up the Maitland leg of Groovin’ The Moo which was mind-blowing! Biggest show we had played, and Will ran into Paul Kelly backstage in the toilets which made it even more ridiculous.
Fave non-music hobby?
Shooting hoops at the basketball stadium, getting a feed on Beaumont Street, or playing video games.
What’s on your dream rider?
Easy – a packet of Cheese and Onion Chips, a 4-pack of V energy drinks, a case of Stone And Wood, and a cheese platter.
Dream music collaboration?
Ooofta, this is a hard one. As a band, maybe someone like Tom DeLonge but only if he strictly sings “where rrr youuuu” and “in my yead”. But then also a Split Feed x Childish Gambino collab wouldn’t hurt either.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
We’re all in the process of getting degrees at the University of Newcastle (shout out), so who knows really. Ten years is a real long time so anything could happen! If we ever play a show with PUP, we’ll probably still be reminiscing on that in ten years.
What’s your go-to karaoke song?
Every single time there is a karaoke set up at a pub we go to Joe sings ‘Thnks Fr Th Mmrs’ by Fall Out Boy. And it goes off, every. single. time.
