The boys are well and truly back, with Cold Chisel today releasing ‘Getting The Band Back Together’, the first single from their upcoming album, Blood Moon.

Earlier this month, Aussie music legends Cold Chisel announced that they would be hitting the road later this year for a series of shows that frontman Jimmy Barnes labelled “bigger, better, brighter and faster than anything else out there.”

With that sort of promise, fans were undoubtedly eager to catch the band live, and once a slew of Aussie music icons were announced as supports for this tour, the whole thing just got better by the second.

However, for long-time fans of the group, the most exciting part of this announcement was the news that the group might indeed have a new single and album on the way.

Having posted photos earlier this year that saw them claim they were “putting the band back together”, Barnes added fuel to this fire of intrigue by noting the band might have a new album by Christmas.

After formally announcing the release of the new record just last week, we’ve today received the first single, with Cold Chisel sharing ‘Getting The Band Back Together’ earlier today.

Written by songwriter Don Walker and produced by Kevin Shirley, the track is a tongue-planted-firmly-in-cheek take on the concept of a band reuniting for some gigs, such as the band will do early next year.

“‘Getting The Band Back Together’ seemed like the right sentiment to accompany the tour but the album itself has a lot of songs that are darker than that, and a few quieter ones too,’ explained Don Walker.

“It’s great to still be making new music and finding new ways to do it after all these years.”

The new track is also accompanied by a clip directed longtime videographer, Robert Hambling, and serves as the first single from Blood Moon, which will be formally released on December 6th.

Available for pre-order and pre-save from November 1st, the new record will be released on a bunch of different formats, including Deluxe CD (with bonus DVD), standard CD, Blood Moon-coloured vinyl, an extremely limited cassette, and all digital formats

The first 100 cassettes pre-ordered on the band’s online store will be individually numbered and all proceeds from the sale of these will go to Foodbank to assist them in providing food for 815,000 Australians each month.
