New South Wales music festival, the Port Macquarie Beer & Cider Festival, has been forced to postpone the 2019 instalment of the festival as a result of bushfire conditions in the area.

The festival was originally slated to kick off this Saturday, November 16th at the Westport Park in Port Macquarie. However, unpredictable weather conditions and bushfires have been deemed a safety concern for businesses and patrons.

“We were hoping the fires would be out by now and we’d all be shouting our legendary Fire Fighters a beer at the festival this weekend. But, with this week’s weather predictions and personally knowing so many affected it’s hard to promote an event when you know so many of your community are hurting,” event organiser Scott Mesiti shared in a statement.

“We want to push back the festival to February to give the town enough time to recover and focus on doing our bit to help in the meantime. We apologise to any of those who may be put out but hope you can understand under the circumstances.”

The festival have rescheduled the event for Saturday, February 22nd next year. Tickets will remain valid for all those that wish to attend the event. Those who can’t make the event are entitled to a full refund.

A press release advises that under these unprecedented circumstances, those who were planning on travelling to the event should be able to change local accommodation plans.

Over 850,000 hectares of land has been destroyed in New South Wales alone since the commencement of bushfire season. Gladys Berejiklian has officially declared the situation a state of emergency.
