Tomorrow, The Strokes will unleash their first album in seven years, The New Abnormal. To promote the release of the record, the seminal New York rockers have launched a pirate radio show, Five Guys Talking About Things They Know Nothing About.
It’s the most quarantine-core album cycle promotion we’ve seen yet. Julian Casablancas, Nick Valensi, Albert Hammond Jr., Nikolai Fraiture, and Fabrizio Moretti recorded the first episode today via conference app Zoom. Together, they spent 17-minutes talking about everything and nothing. If you fancy watching something mindless it is very, very good.
“Like many out there we are staying pretty much at home and keeping to ourselves,” the band shared with the video. “We wanted to see if we could connect with folks, and turned what was supposed to be a pirate radio thing for our album release (which we would make in-person) into a video chat instead… ‘5 guys talking about things they know nothing about.’ In light of everything that’s been happening, we hope this distracts you during your quarantine…”
This is the kind of unpreened content I crave during this time of chaos. Watch it below.
