Music is not all la-de-da behind the scenes, as a new book has cited that Eddie Van Halen once held a gun to Fred Durst‘s head during an alleged jam session.

In the new coffee table book by filmmaker and photographer Andrew Bennet, a quote has come about by none other than musician Eddie Van Halen where he states that he put a gun to Fred Durst’s head in the midst of frustration.

The book, titled Eruption in the Canyon: 212 Days and Nights with the Genius of Eddie Van Halen sees author Bennet following the legendary outfit of Van Halen as he filmed the band between 2004 and 2007.

After both Eddie Van Halen and Fred Durst were introduced to each other, a record label executive made the suggestion that they should work together. Apparently, they were down, with Bennet citing that Durst said, “That would be hilarious. The greatest guitar player ever plays with the worst band ever.” However, Eddie Van Halen keenly responded with, “Fuck it, let’s jam.”

Shortly after, the pair got together in a house in Beverly Hills to jam. Reportedly, Eddie Van Halen was a bit unhappy that Durst took to smoking marijuana which saw him abandon the project without even taking his gear. Eddie Van Halen describing it as being “like being a scholar amongst kindergarteners.”

Afterwards, Eddie Van Halen couldn’t get ahold of Durst for over 24 hours, which left him seemingly frustrated. Allegedly, he decided to drive to Durst’s house in an assault vehicle he had earlier purchased via a military auction.

“He got out wearing no shirt, his hair in a Samurai bun on top of his head,” Bennet wrote, “his jeans held up with a strand of rope and combat boots held together by duct tape. And he had a gun in his hand.”

“That asshole answered the door,” Bennett writes, quoting Van Halen. “I put my gun to that stupid fucking red hat of his, and I said, ‘Where’s my shit, motherfucker?’ That fucking guy just turned to one of his employees and starts yelling at him to grab my shit.”

Next, Bennet wrote that “Eddie Van Halen stood on the front lawn of a residential home in Beverly Hills in broad daylight, smoking a cigarette while holding a gun on Fred Durst as he went back and forth from the house to the assault vehicle, lugging amps and guitars.”

Although this all is alleged happenings, you can check out the full works of Bennet as he followed the lives of Van Halen during their studio sessions between 2004 and 2007 here.
