Legendary alternative rock act, Pixies, have shared their support for the Save Our Stages initiative on social media.
Save Our Stages, a campaign run by National Independent Venue Association (NIVA), is lobbying the US government to support live music venues during the coronavirus pandemic.
Pixies shared a long message of support for the initiative on Instagram over the weekend.
The band urged fans to “think of ALL the shows you’ve seen at local music venues. Think of YOUR favorite local music venue. Think of the MEMORIES you have with friends and loved ones, watching your favourite bands and artists at these venues.”
“Thousands of independent, locally owned venues nationwide (and worldwide) are at risk of closing due to the impacts of COVID-19, many will not survive beyond six months without federal relief,” they continued.
“Pixies have relied on these exact same venues from the very beginning and would not be where we are now as a band without them. Contact your local reps and let them know you support.”
A range of other acts have shared their support for Save Our Stages on social media as well. Guns n’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, Glass Animals, Angels & Airwaves and Hanson are just some of the artists getting behind the campaign.

“Independent clubs need our help!! 90% don’t think they can survive a shutdown of six months without help from the federal government,” McKagan wrote on Twitter.
McKagan ended his post by providing a link to Save Our Stages’ online petition. Meanwhile, Hanson, best-known for their ‘90s hit, ‘MMMBop’, also shared a video to Twitter, urging fans to get involved.
The band tweeted that “after 28 years of playing shows, there are so many music venues that hold special memories for us.”
“With tours and concerts postponed, many of those venues are struggling to survive and need our support.”
