Days after kicking off their most Aussie tour, “current public health concerns” have seen alt-rock icons Pixies postpone their remaining tour dates.

Announcing their local visit last year, the Pixies kicked off their latest tour over the weekend with a performance at Victoria’s Golden Plains festival. The following day, they formally began their “Come On Pilgrim… It’s Surfer Rosa” tour, which sees the band performing their first two releases in full.

Playing at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on Monday and Tuesday night, the group were in fine form, with Rolling Stone Australia describing their first headline date as an “intoxicating affair of nostalgia parading as a wall of noise”.

Sadly, with the group set to perform in Brisbane tonight, an announcement from tour promoters  Live Nation have revealed that the band’s upcoming Australian shows have now been postponed due to fears of coronavirus.

“Out of caution for current public health concerns, Pixies are postponing the remaining Australian shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Perth,” the group explained. “This was an extremely difficult decision, but the well-being of our fans is always our top priority.

“Rescheduled dates for all of these shows will be announced soon. We ask that our fans retain their tickets as they will be honored on the new dates. Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to returning to Australia.”

At the current time, no new dates have been announced, though Live Nation state they’re working with the band to organise time later in the year.
