Noel Gallagher once lost a notebook full of early Oasis lyrics in the early nineties.
Gallagher recently featured on Matt Morgan’s Funny How? podcast, where he revealed that he lost the lyric book after the band were thrown out of a hotel in Manchester.
“I did lose a load of lyrics early on in Oasis,” he said. “We got slung out of a hotel in Manchester – The Britannia, The Midland…one of those – by the police and a lyric book went missing.”
The 53-year-old rocker revealed that the notebook remains lost in the ether “It has not surfaced, and it was in 1993 or 1994, so somebody has just launched it in a bin haven’t they?”
So if you found a notebook in a hotel in the early nineties full of what you thought was gobbledygook, you may actually be the proud owner of a priceless and sacred piece of Oasis history.
During his appearance on the podcast, Gallagher revealed that he once thought the band had ruined their chances of succeeding in the US market due to their larrikin behaviour.
“It was the start of our big crack at America and our first gig was an absolutely fucking shambles of drugs and booze,” he mused.

“That part of the tour, I don’t really remember it. They were crazy days. It was fun: we wore it well. The American tours were always fraught with tension. We were just being drunk and idiots – young and daft and running with the wheels off.” You can listen to the podcast below.

Back in April, Gallagher unearthed an unheard Oasis ‘Don’t Stop…’ demo whilst rummaging through his CD collections amid the coronavirus lockdown.
“Like the rest of the world, I’ve had infinite time to kill lately so I thought I’d FINALLY look and find out what was actually on the HUNDREDS of faceless unmarked CDs I’ve got lying around in boxes at home,” the singer wrote in a note posted to Twitter at the time.
“As fate would have it I have stumbled upon an old demo which I thought had been lost forever,” he continued, adding that the only version of the song that’s “out there” was from a “soundcheck in Hong Kong 15 years ago”.
