The #FreeBritney movement has entered its new phase, as a result of the new documentary, Framing Britney Spears airing to the public.

The movement which has been around since 2009 exists due to concerns regarding Britney being under a conservatorship by her father.

And last year it really kicked into gear.

Just last year Britney attempted to have her father removed as her conservator, stating that she would no longer perform if her father is in charge of her life and her career – a battle which she lost.

And now The New York Times’ documentary, The New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears, has done an amazing job in helping this all come to light, exploring the legal battle between Britney and her father and how the situation came to be.

As reported by The New York Timesalthough the knowledge of the conservatorship is very publicly known, there is still a lot we don’t know about the conservatorship.

The documentary’s senior editor, Liz Day says, “Many of the court records are sealed, despite the best efforts of passionate fans who can be quite dogged in their investigating.”

Day says, “Thankfully, there is no shortage of archival video coverage of her past. The treasure trove of Spears footage from the late 1990s and early 2000s felt, at times, like relics from a long-ago era.”

She added, “Even though it was only two decades ago, many clips had our team wondering whether they would unfold the same way today.”

Now that the documentary has aired, many people have outpoured nothing but love and support for Britney. In particular, fellow musicians including Kacey Musgraves, Vanessa Carlton and Paramore’s Hayley Williams.
