Another day, another record for this quartet. The Album by BLACKPINK has now become the best-selling K-pop girl group album in history.

Breaking records is now a walk in the park for BLACKPINK. The quartet, who debuted in 2016, broke multiple Guinness Records last year with the release of ‘How You Like That’, the title track off of their first full-length album, The Album.

Now, The Album itself has become a shining star in the group’s discography. The Album is now the best-selling album by a K-pop girl group in history. With this achievement, BLACKPINK have also broken an 18-year-old record. Until it was dethroned, the title for the best-selling K-pop album by a female act belonged to BoA’s Valenti.

Releaed in 2003, Valenti was the second Japanese studio album by BoA. Within a week of its release, the album had sold 615,000 copies. Cumulatively, it comes in at over 1.2 million copies in terms of sales, breaking the previous record, also held by BoA.
Even before its release in October 2020, The Album, became a domestic sales giant. Pre-orders clocked in at over 800,000 copies and crossed 1 million in the first week of release.
This remarkable feat comes days after BLACKPINK’s debut music video ‘BOOMBAYAH’ crossed 1.1 billion views on YouTube. This was their third music video to do so, after ‘Ddu-Du-Ddu-Du’ and ‘Kill This Love’. BLACKPINK are also only the second K-pop act to achieve this feat, the first being PSY with his viral hit ‘Gangnam Style.’
In 2020, within 24 hours of release, their track ‘How You Like That’ became the most-viewed music video on YouTube. The quartet also broke five Guinness Records with the single, also becoming the most-followed act on YouTube.
