Ziggy Ramo has shared a powerful reworking of the Paul Kelly classic ‘From Little Things Big Things Grow’.
Titling his version of the song ‘Little Things’, Ramo delivers verses that focus on the history of mistreatment of First Nations people in Australia.
The poignant cover features Kelly’s original chorus alongside new lyrics centred around the invasion of the land.
In a statement, Ramo explained at the original song has always been important to “not only me, but Australia”.
“It was released in 1991, the same year as the Royal Commission into Indigenous deaths in custody… 30 years on I feel honoured to be given permission by Paul Kelly and Kev Carmody to revisit the story from another perspective,” he said,
“‘Little Things’ doesn’t fit into a genre, it doesn’t really fit into today’s musical landscape but this art felt urgent and I wanted to share it with the world.”
Along with the release of the track, Ramo has also shared a music video where he performs the song standing at the top of the Sydney Opera House.

After granting Ramos special permission to film on the structure, the Opera House has also released a short film via its website about the making of both the video and the song.
“Thank you to the Sydney Opera House for believing and understanding my vision,” Ramo said in a subsequent statement.
“It was a privilege to be able to bring this art to life…Our side of history is often not heard”.
