In a move that stinks of poorly conceived record company PR, EMI Music Australia has decided to set up a ‘petition’ to bring the Arcade Fire to Australia. While an Australian tour would be welcome news for the band’s massive fan base in the country, you have to ask why would their record company set up a ‘petition’ to get them to tour here? Obviously a tour would increase a few record sales for the struggling label, but let’s hope it’s just a lame PR stunt before a tour announcement.
The band’s touring schedule has a gap in August which could coincide with an appearance at Splendour In The Grass. As they make the seamless tradition to being a stadium band, they’re also becoming a very pricey proposition for promoters. As stadium band tours increasingly fail to sell well in Australia and drain the war chests of the major promoters, it’ll be those with the deepest pockets that can afford the band.
