This new release from Rhino Records is a great introduction for those who have only recently discovered the works of both Joy Division and New Order.
Joy Division, formed in the late 1970s in Manchester, England, have been incredibly influential in the subsequent years following their demise due to the untimely death of lead singer Ian Curtis. One can still hear them today in bands such as Interpol and the like. Included on this compilation are some of the most well known and strongest Joy Division tracks, such as “She’s Lost Control”, “Transmission” and, of course, the truly classic “Love Will Tear Us Apart”.
From the ashes of Joy Division, after Curtis’ death, came New Order. The 12″ mix of “Blue Monday” is still one of the biggest selling singles of all time. The band very much explored the electronic template set by Joy Division, but in a less dark way on both a sonic and lyrical level.
This compilation includes classic New Order tracks like the aforementioned “Blue Monday” (sadly, only in its original form), the classic “Temptation”, “Bizarre Love Triangle”, “True Faith”, “Regret” and a new track, the previously unreleased and pretty decent “Hellbent”.
As mentioned before, this would be a great introduction to those that have recently discovered the works of these two highly influential and great bands, that still have influence on music as we know it today.
