After months of speculation, leaks, and previews, the day of the release of the Metallica and Lou Reed album is nearly upon us. There is now only a week to go and the unlikely collaborators have released the entire album for streaming on their website so we can listen to it in all its infamy.
Sure, we’ve given this project a hard time over the last two months. We’re still trying to get our heads around the whole thing. Not that Loutallica haven’t done a brilliant press campaign over the last two months. First they let us in on the album cover art, then 30 seconds of track ‘The View’ was leaked online.
However the reaction from most critics and fans was overwhelmingly negative, and we can’t help but wonder whether reports that Metallica were crying in the studio was because they had realised just how bad this album was going to be.
But alas they pressed on, even as their posters were banned in the London Underground for looking too much like street graffiti. Next the bedfellows gave us a sneak peak at the entire length of ‘The View’, which didn’t help change our opinion that this album was going to be very weird.
There is now less than a week to go until the worldwide release of the album and we’ve had a listen to the entire record. To be fair there are moments in this record that are good. But they are punctuated with a lot of uncomfortable and awkward moments that remind us of listening to an overly ambitious demo from a band that is punching well above their weight.
