Debate continues as to whether US rapper Eminem will commit to a third Australian show to complement his sold out appearances in Sydney and Melbourne in December. As we reported at the start of the month excitable Eminem fans had made a premature announcement purporting to be a confirmation of a third show, to be held at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.
Promoter Paul Dainty was forced to retract the announcement on the fan site’s behalf, pointing out that any “official notification” would be coming from him. With The Dainty Group’s proposal on the table, Suncorp Stadium’s staff on notice that they might be required for the proposed date, and ticketing agent Showbiz International having already drafted the announcements it certainly sounds like all ducks are lined up. Actual artist notwithstanding.
Besides the fact that Em has made it clear that he is not keen to do a great heap of shows – Paul Dainty told News.com that he was lucky to get Slim Shady to even come over for two – it is not ducks in a row that anyone is talking about. It’s what’s under the water – namely, fish – that are perhaps the recipients of the pointed fingers.
Apparently, Mr Mathers III, has requested a tranquil pond full of Koi Carp to be installed at each venue as part of his rider and while the concept might seem quite relaxing the Brisbane government do not agree, considering the plump fish to be a “noxious pest” a fact pointed out by The Courier Mail.
Although “housing” the aquatic troublemakers can attract fines up up to $200,000 for owners, we reckon the whole thing sounds a bit, er, fishy (sorry) and that perhaps Paul Dainty is right: Eminem just doesn’t fancy doing more than two shows.
We’ll soon find out if The Dainty Group manage to get the rapper over the line: an announcement either way is thought to be eminent.
