Alanis Morissette has performed her recent single ‘Diagnosis’ for the first time on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
The song is the third single from Morissette’s upcoming record Such Pretty Forks in the Road, her first album in eight years.
Following social distancing guidelines, Morissette broadcast the remarkably zen performance from her home. Or what looks like her own meditation studio, given the presence of a singing bowl. Consider us jealous!
‘Diagnosis’ is a frank and honest song that tackles the stigma surrounding mental health issues. “Call it what you want / ‘Cause I don’t even care anymore / Call me what you want to / To make yourself comfortable,” she sings, providing us with that emotionally raw and cathartic Morissette songwriting we all know and love.
Morissette also spoke to Corden about the experience of home-schooling her nine-year-old son during the COVID-19 outbreak. “I think everyone does it a little differently but unschooling is very child-led,” she explains. “It’s making sure that there’s some physical, some social interactive way of going within and helping your children navigate the inner landscape and of their feelings and their thoughts.”

Making the best of her own quarantine situation, Morissette recently hosted a livestream fundraiser with the cast and producers of her Jagged Little Pill musical, raising money for Actors Fund, a charity which provides emergency relief to multiple members of the professional theatre sector.
‘Diagnosis’ follows the singles ‘Reasons I Drink’ and ‘Smiling’. The latter also features in her Jagged Little Pill musical, which began on Broadway in December 2019. Such Pretty Forks in the Road was due for release in May, and it will now be out September 18 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
