The heart flutters just keep coming for Alanis Morissette fans. Last month Bluesfest announced  Morissette as the third headliner for the 2020 event.

This year also marks 25 years since the release of Morissette’s searing classic Jagged Little Pill. She’ll be playing the whole dang thing in a national tour this April. Demand for tickets has been predictably immense, leading to the addition of two new dates.

The show on Wednesday April 15 at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena has sold out. A second Melbourne gig will take place on Tuesday April 14 at the same venue. The prayers (and online exhortations) of West coast fans have also been answered – Morissette will now perform at Perth’s RAC Arena on Saturday April 18.

Jagged Little Pill was Morissette’s third album overall and followed two low profile releases characterised by accessible dance pop and lyrical naiveté. Jagged Little Pill heartily embraced alternative rock and pop rock and birthed a bevy of enduring singles. You love all of them, from ‘You Oughta Know’ and ‘Hand in My Pocket’ to ‘Ironic’ and ‘All I Really Want’.

‘Ironic’ was certified Gold in Australia and ‘You Oughta Know’ went one better by achieving ARIA platinum certification. In recent years Alanis has proven to be an eloquent feminist. She wrote a Time op-ed in 2016 in which she beautifully deconstructed the patriarchy as “an ignorant and emotionally immature purgatory at best, and, at worst, a liminal despair-filled holding pattern carefully held together by resistance, hate, hostility and separatism.”

She’s also dabbled in film and TV, showing up in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2002 and landing a recurring role as Dr. Audra Kitson for a couple of seasons of Weeds. She was last in Australia in January 2018.
