Grunge legends Alice In Chains, have announced the upcoming release of their new album Rainer Fog, set for a release on August 24th. Rainer Fog marks their first album since 2013’s The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, marking their first release in five years.

In May, the band released the album’s first single ‘The One You Know’, which harkens back to the band’s classic era featuring a muddy, driving guitar riff, solid harmonies and an overall haunting tone.

Alice In Chains’ Jerry Cantrell recently spoke to Rolling Stone about the album’s inception, saying that it “just felt good” to write AIC songs again. He also noted that David Bowie’s death prompted him to begin writing music for the band again.

“You get guys like us together and shit’s just going to start happening,” Cantrell says of creating new Alice In Chains tunes with the group. “I started coming up with ideas, and we started working on tunes. It felt right and the music sounded good.”

“It was around the time that Bowie died, and he must have been in my head a little bit.”

Earlier this year, Cantrell opened up to Guitar World describing the upcoming album as featuring some “weirdo trippy shit”, however, doesn’t stray too far from what fans have come to know and love from the band.

“There’s some really heavy shit, some really ugly stuff, some real beautiful stuff, some weirdo trippy shit… it’s good!”

“It’s also a record that has all the elements of anything you would expect from us. It’s got our fingerprint. And we’re really proud of the material that we wrote and the performances we captured.”

The band recently took to the stage at Hellfest to pay tribute to the late Vinnie Paul of Pantera, dedicating their song ‘Nutshell’ to the fallen drummer.

“Almost every night, we like to play a song for our good friend Layne Staley and Mike Starr, and we’re gonna do that. But I’d like to play this one for Vinnie Paul.”
