Avril Lavigne and Nicki Minaj have unleashed their collaborative track ‘Dumb Blonde’, and it’s very, very good. We didn’t know that we needed a marching-band tinged, The Runaways-referencing, bubblegum pop banger in our lives, but we have it and it is delicious. The track will feature on Avril Lavigne’s forthcoming sixth record Head Above Water.
Prior to the release of the track, Minaj revealed that she’s been a long-standing fan of Lavigne. “If you know me you know how long I’ve been a fan of hers,” Minaj shared on a post on Instagram. “You couldn’t tell me I wasn’t hittin’ EVERY note on ‘I’m With You’ in the shower.”
Lavigne delved into the meaning of the track on a post on Instagram, sharing “We wrote Dumb Blonde as an anthem for anyone who has been stereotyped or talked down to. Keep your confidence up and don’t let anyone tell you how to be.” She also went on to praise Minaj, heralding her as “a talented, strong woman and driving force.”

Head Above Water is Lavigne’s first record in six years. Her last full-length was 2013’s self-titled. As Rolling Stone notes, since the release of her last record, Lavigne has been battling Lyme disease, an illness that she addresses in the album’s title track.
Last year, Avril Lavigne finally responded to the conspiracy theory that she died in 2003 and was replaced by a lookalike named Melissa. Read all about it now.
