Billie Eilish has opened up about her rise to success, noting that she thinks its unfair for people to compare her to artists such as Lana Del Rey.

Over the last year, there has been plenty said about the meteoric rise of US musician Billie Eilish.

While Dave Grohl has likened her impact to that of Nirvana’s, the 17-year-old has become a chart success, hitting #1 all around the world with her debut album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?.

However, in a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, the young musician has hit back at those who find it necessary to compare her to other female artists.

“Everybody’s always trying to make everybody compete,” she explained. “They’re like, ‘Billie’s album might pass Ariana’s…’ But just stop. I don’t care.”

“I don’t want to hear that Billie Eilish is the new Lana Del Rey. Do not disrespect Lana like that!”

“That woman has made her brand so perfect for her whole career and shouldn’t have to hear that,” she continued, noting a desire to stop the cycle of comparisons. “I don’t want to hear that somebody’s the new Billie Eilish in a couple of years.”

In related news, Billie Eilish recently let slip that she wasn’t aware the Spice Girls were an actual band, having thought they were made up for the 1997 film Spice World.

“I thought all the music was written for the movie,” Eilish admitted. “I thought all the characters were cast for those characters. I didn’t figure it out until two years ago.”

In an interview with on Ellen last week, Eilish shared “I watched that movie [Spice World] like 40 times. I remember seeing Spice Girls [were coming back] and thinking, ‘Oh my god, they’re re-enacting the movie.’”

Billie Eilish is set to hit up Australia this month for Groovin The Moo, along with a number of sideshow dates.
