Dubbed by none other than Triple J head honcho Richard Kingsmill as the ‘Worst Band Name Ever’ King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizzard are barely six months old and capturing plenty of industry attention with their incendiary take on surf and rockabilly all mixed in with a healthy dose of punk attitude. Their live show starts off on the stage but frequently ends up in the middle of the venue with an audience heavily weighted in favour of the fairer sex all looking on in adoration.
There are hints of Dick Dale, The Beach Boys and perhaps most obviously The Cramps but this is a refreshing take on rock n’ roll; from a band that confess that they chose their name because they wanted to be the ‘antithesis of all the Fitzroy and Newtown hipster bands with one name’. With an EP forthcoming as well as a tour of the Southern states, check ‘em out.
