Bruce Springsteen has revealed that another new album is on the way, featuring the studio return of his beloved E Street Band.
Ever since Bruce Springsteen released his first record back in 1973, he’s been closely tied with a group of backing musicians known as the E Street Band.
Writing, recording, and touring together for close to 50 years, the E Street Band has been largely absent in recent times. While they haven’t toured since 2017, Springsteen’s recent albums have either been solo, or featured a minimal amount of the group’s members.
However, at a promotional event for Netflix in Los Angeles, Springsteen revealed that he’s written the first record for the E Street Band since 2009.
As Variety notes, Bruce Springsteen appeared beside veteran director Martin Scorsese at a promotional event for their Netflix film Springsteen on Broadway, the music legend opened up about the topic of inspiration and how he writes those anthemic tracks.
“You have to capture a little piece of the divine,” Springsteen began. “And it can come in many, many forms.”
“But whenever I really have written something that I felt has some quality to it, there’s always that little piece of ‘I’m not exactly sure where that came from. I know how I got here or how I got there, but…’
“It’s like I’ve spent about seven years without writing anything for the band. I couldn’t write anything for the band. And I said, ‘Well, of course … you’ll never be able to do that again!’”
“And it’s a trick every time you do it, you know?” he added. “But it’s a trick that, because of that fact that you can’t explain, cannot be self-consciously duplicated. It has to come to you in inspiration.”

“And then about a month or so ago, I wrote almost an album’s worth of material for the band,” Bruce Springsteen revealed. “And it came out of just… I mean, I know where it came from, but at the same time, it just came out of almost nowhere.”
“And it was good, you know. I had about two weeks of those little daily visitations, and it was so nice.” He laughed out loud at the memory. “It makes you so happy. You go, ‘F—, I’m not f—ed, all right? There’ll be another tour!”
This news happens to come just months after Springsteen announced the release of Western Sky, his first solo album since 2005, and first record since 2014’s High Hopes.
While Bruce Springsteen hasn’t been back to Australia since 2017, he also revealed that the E Street Band won’t be hitting the road again until 2020. Here’s hoping we hear more about this new record soon!
