Bruce Springsteen fans can start planning their next trip to the theatres, with The Boss’ Western Stars documentary now receiving an official release date.
Back in June, Bruce Springsteen returned with his 19th studio album, Western Stars. A new solo release from the veteran rocker, the record scored itself critical acclaim across the board, and helped the US charts feature both Springsteen and Madonna in the top two spots for the first time since 1985.
Of course, while fans were a tad let down to see that no accompanying tour dates had been announced, Springsteen instead revealed that he had recently teamed up with filmmaker Thom Zimny to record himself performing Western Stars in full.
“We made a film of the Western Stars album, where I play the record from start to finish along with some other things,” Springsteen explained to E Street Radio.
“We knew we weren’t going to tour, so I was looking for a way to get some of the music live to an audience and so we figured that was the best way to do it. We’re looking forward to getting it to the fans when we can.”

Featuring Springsteen backed by a live orchestra, the film will also feature archival footage and original score composed by The Boss, who has personally narrated the project.
While it was revealed last month that the Western Stars doco will be hitting Aussie cinemas, Deadline now reports that the film will see its widespread cinematic debut on October 25th.
Discussing the new record back in July, Springsteen revealed that the audience reaction had been far better than he had anticipated.
“I thought the record was a little off to the left and I really didn’t know quite know what kind of response it was going to get, he explained. “But just walking around and talking to fans on the street and seeing how the record was received was very exciting.
“It made us look how for we can further that experience for the fans without going out and playing live right now because I’m still working on some other things.”
